Mbah Sadiman Hijaukan Kembali Bukit Gendol dengan Ki Hujan

Pada tahun 1963 terjadi kebakaran hebat di Bukit Gendol, Desa Geneng , Bulukerto, Wonogiri. Kebakaran ini menyebabkan banyaknya pohon yang mati sehingga debit air merosot tajam. Untuk memperoleh air bersih, masyarakat setempat harus memikul sumber air berjarak 500 m dari desa. Mbah Sadiman, seorang petani setempat melihat kondisi ini tidak bisa terus diam dan mulai melakukan sesuatu. Hampir setiap hari, Sadiman menjelajahi hutan milik perhutani. Usahanya untuk kembali menghijaukan ekosistem di Gunung Gendol tak mudah. Dengan kaki yang tak muda lagi, Sadiman harus menaiki jalur terjal dengan tebing-tebing curam mencari tiap centi hutan yang gundul. Tahun 1996, diam-diam mulai menanami bukit gersang itu seorang diri.

Dalam pemikiran Sadiman, tanaman yang tepat untuk bukit agar menghasilkan air adalah pohon berdaun lebat, berakar kuat, dan bergetah. Bukan pinus, atau cemara, seperti di lahan Perhutani. Sadiman lantas memutuskan menanami bukit dengan ipik, loh, bulu, pre, terutama beringin. Beringin atau trembesi (Samanea saman) merupakan tumbuhan yang perakarannya meluas dan kuat. Karena perakaran yang luas dan kuat inilah yang membuatnya kurang disukai karena dapat merusak jalan dan bangunan di sekitarnya. Pohon ini juga sering disebut sebagai dengan Ki hujan karena kemampuannya untuk menyerap air tanah dan air yang sering menetes dari tajuknya.  Selain itu, berdasarkan penelitian Dr. Ir. Endes N. Dahlan, dosen Fakultas Kehutanan Institut Pertanian Bogor, satu batang pohon trembesi mampu menyerap 28.442 kg karbondioksida (CO2) setiap tahunnya. Maka tak heran juga jika pemerintah akhir – akhir ini dalam rangka gerakan one man one tree menggalakkan penanaman Ki Hujan.

Mbah Sadiman menanami lahan Bukit Gendol dengan terencana meski tak tertulis. Dia sengaja membagi dalam empat jalur. Sadiman hapal di lokasi mana saja menanam pohon-pohon itu. Dia pun tahu lokasi pohon yang mati atau ditebang sengaja.

“Saya tanam 19 pohon di jalur tipe 1. Kini yang besar hanya tinggal dua. Sudah sepaha orang, ditebang,” katanya, sedikit geram.

Upaya Sadiman sendiri pun awalnya kerap mendapat tentangan dan protes baik dari keluarga hingga masyarakat. Istri Sadiman kerap memprotes karena uang yang seharusnya untuk keperluan keluarga justru digunakan membeli bibit pohon berbagai jenis. Masyarakat setempat juga mengatakan bahwa apa yang dilakukan Mbah Sadiman ini tidak masuk akal dan tergolong nekat.

Sebenarnya mbah Sadiman pernah meminta Pemerintah Daerah setempat untuk memberikan bantuan bibit pohon berbagai jenis. Sayangnya, permintaan itu kerap tidak disetujui. Beberapa kali Sadiman menerima sumbangan dari perseorangan sebagai penghargaannya merawat hutan. Tapi Sadiman mengaku donasi itu tak pernah masuk kantong pribadinya.

Sekarang, jerih payah Sadiman mulai bisa dituai. Gunung Gendol yang tadinya gersang dan rusak karena kebakaran dan tangan-tangan ‘jahil’ tak bertanggungjawab telah kembali hijau. Beberapa mata air yang bersumber di Gunung Gendol kembali mengalir menyelamatkan dua desa yakni desa Gendol dan Conto dari bencana kekeringan. Selama 20 tahun terakhir, setidaknya sudah ratusan hektar yang dia jelajah dan tanam dengan bibit pohon yang dibelinya. Sadiman rela mengabdikan dirinya demi kelestarian lingkungan meski pekerjaannya sebagai petani dikesampingkan.

Pada hari Bhakti Rimbawan yang jatuh pada 16 Maret ini, FMSC mengajak teman – teman untuk semakin peduli pada lingkungan sekitar serta semakin menjadi pribadi yang bermanfaat tidak hanya untuk keluarga namun juga masyarakat sekitar.
